Qualities of a Cactus

During our first conversation about creating a process video, Mariana mentioned a few things she’s been wanting to capture in her studio—the light reflecting in her workspace at just the right time of day, the sound effects of wedging clay and throwing. I imagined her slowing down and pausing just to take in the beauty of those little moments. And while there’s something so special about keeping those parts of her work to herself, it’s more gratifying to share them.

As she worked at her own pace, I documented the intimate details that make Mariana’s practice uniquely hers. When I edit the footage, it continues to feel like a collaboration between us. Together we compose the story of her process and all those beautiful little moments, and from that comes a video that invites every viewer to step into the Easy to Breathe studio.
