Meet Silbia Ro

Hi There! Would you like to introduce yourself?

Hi. My name is Silbia Ro and I am a calligrapher and illustrator.

What does being a creative mean to you?

Creativity is like a muscle. You have to keep using it to make it stronger.

Challenging myself to be creative and original can sometimes be VERY exhausting but so rewarding.

Do you recall when you first realized you HAD to be creative?

I think my first real big project was a friend’s wedding. I wish I knew what I know now but that was the beginning of my journey.

What is your favorite work ritual?

This is not my favorite but definitely something that works for me is waking up at 4-5 am. The work I get done in those hours almost equals out the work I try to get done during the day. Your mind is definitely more clear and fresh. And of course with hot tea or coffee. ( no coffee on days I do calligraphy because it makes my hands slightly shake. Sigh )

How do you cope when you feel overwhelmed?

I eat! I look for a nice place to eat and I treat myself. And if that doesn’t work, I just get into my PJs and go to sleep. Sometimes a good rest is all it takes.

What three traits would you say are a must for someone going into business for themselves?

I’m actually taking to myself when I say this.

1. Don’t be afraid to fail.

2. You are definitely going to make mistakes so learn from them instead of beating yourself up for it.

3. Be thankful.

What is your definition of success? Do you feel that you are successful?

My definition of success is being able to help and support the people in my life.

Being able to help them while being creative is my goal.

What has been the best advice you have received?

My mom once told me working hard comes first. Money comes later.

Who is a female (past, present or fictional) you find inspirational?

Mothers. This may sound cliche but as I get older I find all mothers inspirational.

Thank you for all you do!
