OWN YOUR STORY

All of us have a story. And there are parts of our story that are ugly; parts that are hard to share; parts we want to keep hidden away. But something quite magical happens when we fight this and decide to let those parts of our story see the light of day.

We can't rewrite our past. If you don't own your story, it will end up owning you. Instead, embrace your story and use it to influence the next chapter.

“When we deny our stories, they define us. When we own our stories, we get to write a brave new ending.”  -Brene Brown

I started 2017 with the decision to push past a fear that had been holding me back for years. The fear of being judged. The fear of really sharing myself with the others. The fear of sharing my voice and face with those who support my business. The fear of being vulnerable.

Although it has been scary as hell being so honest and opening myself up, it has absolutely been worth it. I've found myself building deeper connections because of this. I've had more people reach out to me in the past six months (as opposed to three years of being in business) to say 'Wow I have totally been there!' or 'You just articulated exactly how I'm feeling!'. This has opened new doors for me and given me clarity on my purpose like I've never known was possible.

Last month I wanted to dive deeper into this idea, so I started a 100 Days, 100 Conversations project. Through the rest of the year, I will spend one hour everyday connecting with another women entrepreneur and listening to their story.  I'll be sharing insight over the coming months and release the conversations as a weekly podcast series in 2018.

I encourage all of you to make room in your life for conversations. I encourage all of you to own your story, even when it scares you, and allow it to empower you instead.

If you'd like to share your story with me and this community, I'd be happy to hear it! What you say may be just what someone else needs to hear; and it may be just the thing you need to live a bolder more empowered life.
